St. Kunegunda Catholic Parish
The early settlers of this community were of Polish decent and Polish culture had instilled in its people a strong religious tie to the Roman Catholic Church. It was June 1, 1898, the Brown Brothers Lumber Company conveyed to the Right Reverend S.G. Messmer, Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, a portion of land for the sale price of $1. That portion of land was the birthplace, the beginning, and the home of St. Kunegunda Of Poland Catholic Church.
The original quaint, white wooden frame church with its colored windows and tall steeple was indeed the center of attraction to residents and visitors alike. In 1972, the white-framed church was replaced by the brick church, which stands tall today.
Some of the early local heritage can still be seen today. The St. Kunegunda Queen of Poland Statue, which was purchased in February of 1904, is located in an alcove of the church for personal reflection and prayer. Also, all of the original Stations of the Cross, which are in Polish, adorn the walls in this space where so many come to worship.
