The town of Sugar Camp has had a volunteer ambulance squad in its community for more than 30 years. The volunteers have changed over the years, but the goal is to have 24 hour coverage, 7 days a week. This is not always possible due to job schedules, family activities and other commitments. On those hours Sugar Camp is covered by medic I out of Rhinelander.
The ambulance that is housed at the Sugar Camp fire shed is owned by Oneida County.
The ambulance volunteers are employees of St. Mary’s hospital, which means that they follow protocols outlined by St. Mary’s Hospital and meet Wisconsin state requirements.
Currently the squad consists of 14 volunteers. They Include:
Drivers
John Bigley
Kyle McMahon
EMT-Basic
Debbie Holewinski
Mike Kortenhof
Mary Wolf
Bob Mangles
Tim Stolar
Eric Schoeneck
EMT-IV Techs
Nicole Lea
Scott Lea
Glenn Kortenhof
Nurses
Mary Dolansky
Amy Stolar
Mary Kortenhof
All the volunteers, past and present, are a unique group of people who dedicate themselves to the care of others. They give their time unselfishly, undertaking call hours, special trainings, meetings, mock disaster drills, hospital in services, and refresher courses required by the state.
The squad meetings are the fourth Monday of each month starting at 6:00.
