The Sugar Camp Fire Department has had four additions to the fleet since 2000.  Rescue 1 was added in 2000 and provides transportation of fire fighters to almost every type of call received. With the on-board water tank and pump, this vehicle can be an asset when responding to wild land fires. Rescue 1 is also set up to tow trailers that contain the air boat, snowmobile and the all - terrain vehicle.

In 2002, Tanker 2 was added to the fleet. Tanker 1 responds to all structure fires and wild land fires in the Town of Sugar Camp and when requested for mutual aid by adjacent fire departments. A unique characteristic of this apparatus is that it is also equipped with a 1,000 gallon per minute pump. This allows Tanker 1 to secure a water source independently from other apparatus or pumps.

A partnership with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department occurred in 2008 with the joint purchase of the Diamondback Airboat. Already scheduled to replace the existing fire department boat, the Sheriff's Department approached the fire department to jointly purchase this airboat.  Partnering with this purchase benefits both departments in that each department did not have to individually purchase a rescue boat.  The air boat operates in water and on ice, snow and dry land which allows responders to safely respond to incidents that occur during early and late ice.

The last addition to the fire department's fleet was the purchase of the Pierce Contender fire engine. This apparatus replaced the 1980 Ford FMC fire engine. This vehicle was purchased in considering future needs and the types of responses the fire service may face in the future. This apparatus allows for five fire fighters to respond in an enclosed cab to and from emergencies. Additional features included a larger pump in considering future fire flow capabilities and on - board class A foam that assists in suppressing structure and wild land fires.

The fire department contracts with Red Power Diesel in Fremont, Wisconsin to provide annual apparatus maintenance as required, Pomasl Fire and Equipment in Antigo to provide annual pump testing and certification as required by the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and Great Lakes Ladders out of Green Bay to provide ladder testing as required by NFPA. In an effort to extend the service life of all fire apparatus, local and in-house service is also performed if within the capabilities of fire department members and local service centers.

Engine 2

NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, 2009 edition, recommends fire departments to seriously consider apparatus older than 15 years that have been properly maintained and still serviceable to be down graded to reserve status and upgrade in accordance with NFPA 1912, Standard for Fire Apparatus Refurbishing. While some fire apparatus in larger communities may simply wear out from use in as little as 8 to 10 years, rural communities with apparatus that were manufactured with quality components, received excellent maintenance and responded to minimal responses may extend their service lives to 20 years.
